Gordon Sharp, 88, the oldest participant in the New England Checker Federation Tournament makes his moves against Alexander Weaver, 39, of Hackensack, N.J., the youngest, during a checker game in Dover on Saturday, June 21. Sharp lives in Shelton, Conn. now, but learned to play checkers while growing up in Scotland to help an ill neighbor keep his mind off of his sickness.
